Confident, natural smile
The basics

What is cosmetic dentistry?

Cosmetic dentistry covers any treatment that improves the appearance of your teeth and smile. Some options are quick and subtle; others are transformative.

The most common treatments are professional whitening for stains, veneers for reshaping and covering flaws, and bonding for quick, affordable fixes to chips and gaps.

Many patients combine treatments into a personalized smile makeover — we’ll help you prioritize based on your goals and budget.

Compare your options

Whitening, bonding, or veneers?

Teeth whitening changes the color of natural teeth. It does not change tooth shape or lighten existing crowns, fillings, or veneers. Ask whether the type of discoloration you have is likely to respond.

Dental bonding uses tooth-colored resin to adjust smaller chips, edges, or gaps. It can be a conservative option for selected concerns, but the material can stain or chip and may need repair.

Porcelain veneers cover the front surface of selected teeth to change their appearance. They require careful planning and usually some enamel removal. Discuss that long-term commitment and future replacement before choosing treatment.

If tooth position is the main concern, ask whether an orthodontic evaluation would be more appropriate than changing tooth shape. A cosmetic consultation should compare suitable options, including the option of no treatment.

What to discuss at a cosmetic consultation

Tell us what you would like to change and what you want to keep about your smile. Bring your questions about shade, shape, timing, and budget. An examination helps identify any decay, gum problems, or bite issues that should be addressed first.

If your plan combines whitening and restorations, ask about the order of treatment so the final shades work together. Confirm the number of visits and any temporary restorations before planning around an event.

Request a written estimate for the proposed work, including maintenance and possible future replacement. Insurance benefits depend on the treatment and your plan.
