Website Accessibility

We work endlessly to broaden the content that is available on our website. The following list includes some tips to help improve your browsing experience and give you more access to the assistance you are looking for.

A. Visual Assistance

If you are having difficulty viewing web pages, the following tips can help:

  • Use your computer to read web pages aloud
  • Use the keyboard to navigate screens
  • Increase text size
  • Magnify your screen
  • Change background and text colors
  • Make your mouse pointer more visible (Windows only)

Most of these options live in your device’s accessibility or display settings. Your browser can also zoom the whole page with Ctrl and + on Windows, or Command and + on a Mac.

B. Audio Assistance – Closed Captioning

If you have trouble hearing or are deaf, closed captioning allows you to follow a video by displaying the words on the screen as they are spoken. Captions are also useful in noisy places where the audio is hard to make out, or in quiet places where you would rather not turn the sound on. Where a video player offers captions, you can usually turn them on with the CC button in the player’s controls.

C. Audio Assistance – Volume Controls

All of your devices, including your phone, tablet and computer, should have volume controls. Individual videos and audio services usually have their own volume setting as well, separate from the device volume, so you can adjust both to get the level that works best for you.

D. Keyboard and Mouse Alternatives

If using a mouse or keyboard is difficult, speech recognition software such as Dragon NaturallySpeaking lets you control your device with your voice. These programs can assist you in navigating online through web pages and other services without relying on traditional input devices. Windows and macOS also include built-in voice control and dictation tools.
