The basics

Why professional cleanings matter

Even with great home care, plaque hardens into tartar that only a professional cleaning can remove. Regular cleanings support prevention alongside daily home care.

During a cleaning, your hygienist removes buildup, polishes your teeth, and checks your gum health — pairing with your dental exam.

If an examination identifies periodontitis, we may recommend scaling and root planing, a treatment that cleans below the gumline.

Routine cleaning or periodontal care?

A routine cleaning supports preventive care when that is appropriate for your gum health. Scaling and root planing treats periodontitis by addressing deposits below the gumline. It may involve local anesthetic and more than one visit.

After periodontal treatment, maintenance visits help monitor gum health and manage recurrence. The type and frequency of care depend on your findings and response to treatment. These visits are not interchangeable with a basic routine cleaning.

Ask the team to explain your gum measurements, imaging findings, and recommended next steps. For background, see the ADA’s scaling and root planing guide and the American Academy of Periodontology’s treatment overview.

Before booking

Your first cleaning and the new-patient offer

Tell us when you last had dental care and whether you have sensitivity, bleeding, or a history of gum treatment. Your examination determines the appropriate care and whether cleaning can be completed that day. You do not need to feel embarrassed if it has been a while.

The $97 new-patient offer is for a basic routine cleaning. It does not mean periodontal treatment is included or that every patient is eligible for routine cleaning. Review the current offer details and ask for an estimate if a different service is recommended.

Bring your insurance information and discuss benefit limits before treatment. Visit our insurance page or explore the membership plan if you do not have dental insurance. Before you leave, confirm your home-care instructions and next visit interval.

What’s a deep cleaning?
Scaling and root planing cleans tooth and root surfaces below the gumline to treat periodontitis. It is different from a routine preventive cleaning. Your examination determines whether it is needed.
