The basics

What are dentures?

Conventional dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth. Full dentures replace a whole arch; partial dentures replace several missing teeth while natural teeth remain. Implant-supported options may be removable or fixed, depending on the design.

Modern dentures are custom-fitted and natural-looking, and can be secured with dental implants for extra stability.

We take the time to fit them well, so they’re comfortable and function naturally.

Choose with confidence

Compare full, partial and implant-supported dentures

Start by asking which teeth can be kept and what will support the replacement. A partial denture works around remaining teeth; a full denture replaces all teeth in one arch. Dental implants may provide additional support for selected patients.

Ask whether you will remove the proposed appliance yourself or whether it stays fixed in place. Those designs have different cleaning routines, treatment stages and maintenance needs. If you are missing only a few teeth, a dental bridge may also be worth discussing.

Plan the transition

If teeth need to be removed, ask what you will wear while healing and when the final fit will be assessed. Confirm the number of appointments, whether adjustments or relines are anticipated and which visits are included in your plan.

Getting comfortable

Adjusting to dentures and caring for your mouth

New dentures may feel unfamiliar while you adapt to speaking and eating. Keep your adjustment appointments and report sore spots or slipping. Do not try to reshape or repair the appliance yourself.

For removable dentures, follow the team's instructions for daily cleaning, storage and when to leave them out. Clean your gums and any remaining teeth too. For a fixed implant restoration, ask for a demonstration of how to clean underneath it.

Regular dental visits still matter even if you no longer have natural teeth. Ask the dentist to check fit, wear and the tissues supporting your denture. For independent information, see the ADA's denture guide and Cleveland Clinic's implant-supported denture overview.

Costs and follow-up

What should your denture estimate include?

Request a written estimate for the complete treatment plan. Ask whether it includes examinations, imaging, extractions, temporary dentures, implants if recommended, fitting appointments and adjustments.

Discuss potential future costs for relining, repairs or replacement. Review your expected insurance contribution and personal cost with the team; our insurance information and financial policies can help you prepare questions.

Frequently asked

How long do dentures last?
Dentures often last 5–10 years and may need relining or adjustment as your mouth changes over time.
Are implant-supported dentures better?
Implants can improve denture stability, but suitability depends on your health, bone and treatment goals. Ask whether the proposed design is removable or fixed and what maintenance it needs.
Will dentures look natural?
Yes. Modern dentures are custom-designed to look natural and suit your face.
How do I care for dentures?
We’ll show you how to clean and store them and how to keep your gums healthy.
Can I eat normally with dentures?
Eating with new dentures takes practice. Start with the foods and chewing guidance your dentist recommends, and ask about any ongoing restrictions for your denture design. Contact the office if pain or poor fit makes eating difficult.
Which offices offer dentures?
All four Village Dental offices offer dentures.
