Bite Guards & Night Guards in Raleigh & Wake Forest, NC

Protect your teeth from grinding and clenching.

If you grind or clench your teeth — often at night — a custom bite guard can help protect your teeth from wear. Jaw pain and headaches need an assessment to identify their cause. Village Dental makes comfortable, custom-fitted guards at all four Triangle offices.

The basics

What is a bite guard?

Many people grind or clench their teeth, often in their sleep, which wears down enamel and can cause jaw pain, headaches, and cracked teeth.

A custom bite guard is an appliance fitted to your teeth to help protect them from grinding forces.

It is made from an impression of your teeth, and your dentist checks and adjusts its fit.

Choose the right appliance

Night guards and sports mouthguards differ

A night guard is intended to help protect teeth from grinding and clenching. A sports mouthguard cushions impacts during activities. Do not assume one appliance can serve both purposes; explain when and how you plan to use it.

Bring an existing guard to your visit so the dentist can assess fit and wear. Ask how your new appliance should feel, how often to wear it, and when to return for an adjustment. A guard should not be forced into place.

Persistent jaw pain, locking, headaches, or a change in your bite deserve an evaluation. A guard does not diagnose or cure every cause of those symptoms. Learn more from the ADA’s teeth grinding guide.

Ongoing care

Cleaning, fit checks, and replacement

Follow the cleaning instructions for your specific material and use the storage case as directed. Ask which products and water temperatures are suitable. Bring the guard to recommended dental checkups so its condition can be reviewed.

Contact the office if it cracks, develops rough areas, feels loose, or no longer fits after dental work. Replacement timing depends on wear and changes to your teeth rather than one fixed schedule.

Before ordering, ask whether the estimate includes the fitting visit, adjustments, and any replacement terms. Insurance coverage varies by plan and reason for treatment; confirm your expected share of the cost.
