A useful insurance conversation starts with your exact plan and the treatment being considered. Use this guide to prepare questions and read an estimate. For Village Dental’s maintained plan information, visit the current insurance page and confirm details with your selected office.

Confirm the exact plan, provider and location

An insurer’s name alone does not establish network participation. Ask both the office and insurer about your specific plan and treating provider. Accepting or filing an insurance claim is different from being in network.

Ask what the proposed treatment includes

Request an itemized plan identifying the recommended procedures and fees. Ask the dentist which parts are necessary, what alternatives exist and how treatment may be staged. Keep clinical recommendations separate from the insurer’s payment rules.

Read the estimate as an estimate

Compare the total fee, expected insurer payment and expected patient share. Ask how deductibles, remaining annual benefits, waiting periods, frequency limits or exclusions affect the calculation. Pre-treatment estimates do not guarantee final payment; eligibility and available benefits can change. The ADA explains preauthorizations and benefit estimates.

Resolve questions before the appointment

If an amount is unclear, ask the office to explain it and contact your insurer about the plan rule involved. Keep the estimate and the insurer’s response together so you can refer to them when reviewing a later statement. Ask how changes to the treatment plan would be discussed with you.

If insurance does not cover the full cost

Review the financial policies and ask the office about available arrangements and their written terms. If you are considering membership, use the current membership information and confirm eligibility rather than assume it can be combined with your insurance.

Choose your Olde Raleigh, North Raleigh, Brier Creek or Wake Forest office and bring your insurance questions when planning the visit. New patients can also use the first-appointment information.
