Your first visit · October 7, 2026

Choosing a new dentist comes with practical questions. How long will the appointment take? Will you have a cleaning? What should you bring? Your first visit to Village Dental is a chance to get answers, talk about your concerns and understand your oral health before deciding on next steps.

The short answer

Plan approximately 1.5 to 2 hours for a comprehensive new-patient visit. Complete your forms, bring your medication list and insurance details, and ask what your appointment includes. Your exam determines the right cleaning and treatment plan.

Whether you are new to Raleigh, looking for a dental home near Brier Creek or scheduling in Wake Forest, a little preparation can make the visit easier. Here is how to get started and what to expect.

1. Choose the location that fits your routine

Village Dental welcomes new patients at four locations. Consider which one works best for your commute and future visits, then confirm that location when booking.

You can start through our new-patient page or call your preferred location. Tell the scheduling team why you are coming in, especially if you have pain, a broken tooth or another immediate concern. An urgent visit may follow a different plan from a routine new-patient appointment.

2. Complete your forms and gather the basics

Use the online patient forms before your visit when possible. Choose the forms for the office you will be visiting. An accurate health history helps the team prepare for your care.

Bring a photo ID, your dental insurance card if you have one, and a current list of medications and supplements. Include allergies and relevant medical conditions on your forms. If another dental office has recent records or X-rays, ask our team whether transferring them would be useful and how to arrange it.

Write down the questions you most want answered. These might be about a sensitive tooth, bleeding gums, the appearance of your smile or the cost of future treatment. You do not need to arrive with a diagnosis or a treatment plan.

3. Allow time for a thorough first appointment

For a comprehensive new-patient visit, Village Dental recommends allowing approximately 1.5 to 2 hours and arriving about 10 minutes early. Your appointment may include a comprehensive exam, digital X-rays as appropriate, and a discussion of your findings and options. Confirm the timing with the office when you schedule, since your needs may change the plan.

The dentist will explain what the examination shows and discuss recommendations with you. Let the team know about any area that feels uncomfortable, even if the symptom comes and goes. This is also a good time to explain what matters most to you: getting comfortable with dental care, addressing a specific problem or maintaining your smile.

Will I have my teeth cleaned at the first visit?

A cleaning plan depends on the health of your teeth and gums. A basic routine cleaning is appropriate for patients without gum disease. If the exam identifies gum disease or another issue that needs attention, the team will explain the recommended care and scheduling.

Do not assume every first visit will include the same type of cleaning or that all treatment can be completed that day. Ask what is included in your appointment when booking, and discuss your individual cleaning needs after the examination.

What if I feel nervous about seeing the dentist?

Tell us when you schedule. Knowing about dental anxiety or a difficult past experience gives the team a chance to discuss your concerns before you arrive. You can also ask how the appointment will be explained and how to signal that you need a pause.

Village Dental offers nitrous oxide, oral sedation and IV sedation at all four locations. Your dentist will help determine whether an option is appropriate for you. Some sedation plans require advance instructions and an adult escort, so discuss them before the appointment rather than waiting until you are in the chair.

Understand costs before deciding on treatment

Bring your insurance information early so the team can help check benefits. Coverage, deductibles and annual maximums vary, and a benefits estimate does not guarantee what an insurer will pay. Our dental insurance page is a useful starting point for questions.

If you do not have dental insurance, review the current new-patient offer. Village Dental currently advertises a $97 basic routine cleaning with a free comprehensive exam and digital X-rays for new patients without insurance. The routine cleaning applies in the absence of gum disease. The offer cannot be combined with insurance or other offers; confirm current eligibility and terms with the office when booking.

For additional treatment, ask for a written estimate and an explanation of which needs are urgent and which can be planned over time. You can also review the membership plan and financial policies with the team to understand the options that apply to you.

Your next step

Leave with a clear next step

Before you leave, make sure you understand what the dentist found, what care is recommended and when to return. If a recommendation is unclear, ask the team to explain it again. A useful care plan should connect the finding, the proposed treatment and the timing.

Your first visit to Village Dental begins an ongoing conversation about your smile. Explore new-patient information and schedule your visit at the location that works for you. Bring your questions—we are ready to help you get started.
